Answer Piping

When you create a form with Kiteform, you can use the answers from one question in the text of subsequent questions or statements.

NOTE: Answer Piping is also known as "variables" or "recall information."

For instance, you can ask the question "What is your first name?" and then use that answer in a later question like "What's the best email address for you, [Name]?" Answer Piping allows you to ask questions in a friendly, personalized way, making your forms feel more conversational and engaging for your respondents.

Answer Piping is also beneficial for form creators! You can use it to validate responses, summarize information, and ask follow-up questions.

How It Works

With Answer Piping, you can create a more engaging form experience by recalling answers in real-time. For example, after collecting a respondent’s name, you can mention it in a later text block, and Kiteform will automatically insert the name.

Steps to Use Answer Piping

Using Answer Piping to address respondents by their name is easy:

  1. Collect the Respondent’s Name: Start by asking for the respondent's name. Add a short answer block by typing /short and labeling it “Enter your name”
  2. Incorporate the Name in Text: In a subsequent text block where you want to mention the respondent’s name, type @ and select or type the corresponding input field, such as “Enter your name”

The form will now automatically include the response provided by the respondent in the “Enter your name” question.

Adding Default Values

If the “Enter your name” question is optional and the respondent does not provide an answer, you can add a default value by clicking on the mentioned value.
